Jenner & Block announced today that it has laid off 34 staff members in its Chicago headquarters and Washington, D.C., offices.
In a written statement, managing partner Susan Levy notes that corporate work is down and corporate clients are pressuring law firms generally to hold the line on legal fees, reports the Chicago Tribune.
"Increasingly, price-sensitivity in the marketplace demands that we more closely align the firm's cost structure to best serve clients," she writes.
Above the Law provides the full text of a statement by Levy in a post today about the Jenner layoffs.

Or, the April Abhorrence, the April Abomination, the April Adversity, the April Affliction, the April Aggravation, the April Alarm, the April Austerity (or, perhaps, the April Apocalypse).
