Law firms in South Florida are in a hiring mood.

Florida’s legal services sector added 3,000 jobs in July, the Sun Sentinel reports. Law firms in the Miami area are hiring lawyers in corporate law, bankruptcy, employment law, government regulation and even real-estate law, the story says.

Among the law firms reporting increased hiring:

• Holland & Knight, which has hired 15 lawyers in South Florida this year, up from 11 in 2010

• Greenberg Traurig, which has hired 20 lawyers in South Florida this year, compared with 14 lawyers in 2010.

• Bilzin Sumberg, which hired nine lawyers in Miami just in the past month.

The South Florida job market is still rough for new lawyers, though. The newspaper quotes Judith Equels, career center director for the Florida Bar Association. “All the law firms are looking for three to seven years out of law school,” she said.
