Jones Day Snags 7-Partner Howrey Construction Team; 2 Others Go to Ober Kaler
Adding to an ever-lengthening list of departing lawyers, a seven-partner construction team has exited Howrey’s office in San Francisco this week for Jones Day.
Howrey declined to comment, reports the Daily Journal (sub. req.). But partner Robert Mittelstaedt, who heads the San Francisco office of Jones Day, confirmed the move today.
Led by Stephen O’Neal, the group also includes David Buoncristiani, John Foust, Aaron Gruber, Kent Lindsay, Daven Lowhurst and Clark Thiel,
Earlier this month Jones Day announced that two other Howrey partners, intellectual property practitioners William Rooklidge and Frank Cote, were joining from Howrey’s office in Irvine.
Rooklidge had served as the global co-chair of Howrey’s IP practice.
Meanwhile, Ober Kaler announced today that it has hired two other Howrey construction partners, Stephen Palley and Barbara Werther, in Washington, D.C., the Daily Journal reports.
A deadline reportedly looms this weekend for remaining Howrey partners to decide whether to accept Winston & Strawn offers that some 75 percent are said to have received.
Although the number of Howrey partners dwindles almost daily, “There is still a lot of valuable talent for Winston to pick up,” Rooklidge tells the legal publication pointing, for example, to a strong patent group in his former firm’s East Palo Alto office.
Observers anticipate that some Howrey lawyers also may follow intellectual property partner Robert Galvin to WilmerHale.
