A longtime California judge who retired early this year has been admonished for comments he made to attorneys while still on the bench.

Former San Bernardino County Superior Judge Paul Bryant Jr. shouldn’t have said to a prosecutor that she had “rocks for brains,” or something very similar, according to the state Commission on Judicial Performance. Likewise, the commission found, it was inappropriate for Bryant to tell two other attorneys that they were obnoxious, reports the Contra Costa Times.

He was admonished for a total of five comments he made since 2005.

Since his January retirement, Bryant has continued to serve as an assignment judge filling in where help is needed.
