A judge in Charleston County, South Carolina, is expected to issue an injunction barring the Charleston School of Law from laying off a law professor who claimed she was fired for opposing the sale of the school to InfiLaw.

Lawyers for law professor Nancy Zisk told the Wall Street Journal Law Blog that Judge R. Markley Dennis has indicated he will issue an injunction that will allow the professor to keep her job pending resolution of her lawsuit.

Zisk was among seven tenured professors laid off by the school. She argued that the school and its owners contrived a “financial exigency” to justify the layoffs. In reality, Zisk alleged, the financial problems were caused by the wrongful withdrawal of $25 million in profits from law school accounts by the corporation that owned the school.

The proposed sale to InfiLaw has since been put on hold. Lawyers for the school say it was able to continue operation because of money savings from the layoffs.
