An Arkansas judge was hospitalized in serious condition, authorities said, after he was attacked Sunday by a pet zebra kept by his father on a 40-acre family farm in Searcy.

A court clerk said White County District Judge Mark Derrick suffered eye and arm injuries. No criminal charges are expected, although police say the judge could seek charges against his father, if he wished to, reports KARK.

Searcy’s city attorney Buck Gibson, said the municipality prohibits wild animals but a grandfather clause allows those already on property before it was annexed by Searcy to remain, KATV reports. Family members could not be reached for comment by the media, but neighbors said the father has kept exotic animals for years.

“There are camels, the zebra, the buffalo,” Ruby Moye told KARK. “It’s unusual not to be able to see a lot of them out there.”
