Judge Issues Stop-Work Order After Bodies of Lawyer, Wife Discovered in Derailed Train Wreckage
A Cook County judge has ordered a halt to cleanup of a derailed train after crews discovered the derailment and subsequent bridge collapse Wednesday claimed the lives of at least two victims.
The bodies of a Chicago-area lawyer and his wife were found Thursday beneath the wreckage of the 138-car freight train, which derailed near Northbrook on Wednesday afternoon.
The couple has been identified as Burton Lindner, 69 and Zorine Lindner, 70 of Glenview, NBC Chicago and the Chicago Tribune report.
Lindner was the founding and senior partner the firm he started in 1975, Lindner & Lindner. His wife was a social worker.
The two were headed out for an afternoon together when the viaduct they were driving under collapsed. The Tribune reports that while it was initially reported that there were no injuries in the derailment, officials are now saying there may be more victims.
The judge’s order to stop work for 36 hours is to give lawyers for the family time to hire experts and a videographer to examine the scene before filing a wrongful death action.
