Judge Judy settles suit over ads with her likeness

Judge Judy has settled her suit that contended a Connecticut personal injury lawyer used her image without her authorization.
Judy Sheindlin said in a statement that she and Hartford lawyer John Haymond “reached an amicable resolution of their claims against each other,” according to the Connecticut Law Tribune and TMZ. Details of the settlement were not released.
Sheindlin has said the suit was the first she ever filed in her 50-year career. The complaint had alleged that Haymond used clips from Sheindlin’s Judge Judy show in local TV ads. Haymond responded that he simply agreed to take part in TV ads pitched by local television stations in which the stations would promote Judge Judy using Haymond’s persona. He alleged in a counterclaim that Sheindlin defamed him in a statement issued when she filed suit in March.
Sheindlin said the settlement will “solely benefit the girls of Her Honor Mentoring Program.” According to TMZ, professional women act as mentors to high school girls in the program.
