A judge in Sri Lanka expressed shock over the rowdy behavior of some lawyers in a packed courtroom last week after an unpopular ruling, saying that their proper remedy was an appeal rather than taking out their frustration on courthouse chairs.

Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundera also urged attorneys to inspect their chairs carefully before taking a seat, in case they had been damaged in the fray, reports the Ceylon Daily News.

The incident concerned the court’s majority ruling in the so-called white flag case against former army commander Sarath Fonseka, who was sentenced to three years and fined for propagating a false rumor in violation of emergency regulations. The case is described in detail in an earlier Sunday Times article.
