A Florida lawyer is trying to get his name on the Miami-Dade judicial ballot despite one impediment: The check written to cover his qualifying fee was 20 cents short.

Lawyer Daniel Espinosa says in a letter to the division of elections that he would like to qualify for the ballot despite the shortage, report the Miami Herald, the Wall Street Journal Law Blog and the Justice Building Blog.

Espinosa’s campaign treasurer wrote a check for $5,843 rather than $5,843.20. As a result, his name was stripped from the candidates’ list after the qualifying deadline on Friday.

For now, the only judge on the ballot is the incumbent, Rosa Rodriguez.
