Justice Anthony M. Kennedy has reportedly told friends and family he has no plans to retire from the U.S. Supreme Court for at least three more years.

The New York Daily News relies on anonymous sources for the story. Kennedy has been on the court for 22 years, and a three-year delay would put any plans for retirement past the end of President Obama’s first term in office, the story says.

According to the Daily News, Kennedy “has become a bit of a political nemesis at the White House for his increasing tendency to side with the court's four rock-ribbed conservative justices.” He wrote the majority opinion in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission finding that corporations have a First Amendment right to expressly support political candidates. Obama criticized the opinion during his State of the Union speech.
