A Texas justice of the peace has been admonished by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct for calling a lawyer “boy” and comments directed to parties who are racial or ethnic minorities.

Justice J. Kent Adams, who sits in Spring, didn’t deny making the comments at issue but said they should be viewed in context in a filing in the legal ethics case, the Houston Chronicle reports.

He said he asked parents about their children and finances, for instance, to determine if they qualified for special services.

Adams didn’t immediately respond to the newspaper’s request for comment.
