Is intellectual property law firm Kenyon & Kenyon canceling its summer associate program this year? Not officially, the law firm says in an equivocal statement.

The law firm responded to Above the Law after tipsters told the blog the summer associate program has been canceled.

“This is not the case,” the firm said in its statement. “While some major firms have cancelled their summer associate programs in the past, we have not officially cancelled our summer associate program, but are not guaranteeing that there will be a summer program this year. We are in a transitional period and we cannot say with any certainty there will be a summer program at this time.”

The law firm also said it has not rescinded offers to summer associates, though it did warn about the precarious nature of this year’s program. “We have explained to the summer associates that we cannot guarantee them a summer associate position at this time,” a spokesperson told Above the Law. “We told them we understand that they may feel the need to explore other opportunities.”

Kenyon & Kenyon lost 16.4 percent of its lawyers last year, according to an October 2015 report by the Am Law Daily.
