A group of at least eight health care lawyers is poised to exit the Sacramento office of DLA Piper.

They will open a Sacramento office next month for Atlanta-based King & Spalding, reports the Sacramento Business Journal

The group is headed by Stephen Goff, a former co-chair of King & Spalding’s national health care practice.

However, it’s all about expanding the firm’s health-care practice, not its California footprint, explains the Daily Report (sub. req.).

“We’re not looking to build out a full-service Sacramento office,” said Jon “Jay” Harris, who serves as co-chair of King & Spalding’s life sciences and health care practice. “We are adding this group because they are consistent with our strategic focus in the health care and life sciences space, not because we are hoping to open an office in Sacramento.”

Much the same group of health lawyers exited McDonough Holland & Allen for DLA Piper early in 2010. It was the beginning of an exodus that ended with the closing of the McDonough firm, once the second-largest legal shop in the region, reports the Sacramento Business Journal.
