King & Spalding, Wilmer Cutler File Infringement Suits Against Samsung

Samsung is facing lawsuits filed by two major law firms that accuse the company of infringing patents on memory chips in portable electronic devices and camera-phone technology.

A Delaware federal suit filed by King & Spalding on behalf of Spansion Inc. claims Samsung infringed patents on memory chips that produce $7 billion in annual revenue for Samsung, report the New York Times and the Am Law Daily.

The firm has also filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission seeking to bar the import of more than 100 million products that use the chips, including music players, cell phones, cameras and laptop computers, the Times story says. The Am Law Daily says targeted items include BlackBerrys and iPods.

In another federal suit filed in Rochester, N.Y., Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Door claims Samsung violated Eastman Kodak patents for camera phone technology. The law firm has also filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission.
