When Georgetown University Law Center grad Dennis Doyle got laid off in March from his job with a small Manhattan law firm, one of his sisters asked him to list his passions.

Doyle, 31, listed three things: writing, traveling and the New York Knicks. Now he is combining all three passions, the New York Times reports.

Doyle withdrew $20,000 from his savings account so he could attend every one of the team’s games this season, at home and on the road. He is writing about his experiences at a blog and he hopes to publish a book.

So far, Doyle has seen the team lose eight times. “I knew there was a chance that this could be a really awful season,” he acknowledged in an interview with the newspaper.

“I think there’s a metaphor between what’s happening with the team and what’s happening in my own life,” Doyle told the Times. “You’ve got this team that’s coming off a horrible year where everything went wrong. But they’re in transition, and there’s hope on the horizon.”
