Lathrop & Gage is acquiring Greenlee Sullivan’s lawyers in a move that will boost the firm’s intellectual property practice to one of the three largest in Colorado.

Five partners, two associates, three patent agents and support staffers will be moving from Greenlee Sullivan to Lathrop & Gage on Jan. 1, according to a press release, Colorado Law Week and the Denver Business Journal.

Lathrop & Gage opened a Boulder office in 2000 to attract top IP talent, according to the press release. Like many smaller cities near colleges, Boulder is “a hub of start-up activity,” the New York Times’ Dealbook blog has reported.

The new lawyers will bolster Lathrop & Gage’s life sciences practice in Boston, where the firm opened an office last January.
