Although it already has an active Latin American practice, DLA Piper doesn’t have any offices in South America.

That may soon change, predicts the Lawyer, now that the firm has added former McDermott Will & Emery tax partner Stuart Berkson to its attorney roster.

With 28 years of experience in the region, Berkson, who is now a partner in DLA Piper’s Chicago office, is expected to lead the firm’s ongoing efforts to develop a more extensive Latin American practice, according to the legal publication and a DLA Piper press release.

Although the firm doesn’t say in the release that it will open Latin American offices, the Lawyer predicts that DLA Piper will soon have an office in Brazil, and perhaps in Miami as well.

“We have no specific plans as yet but we are looking to add this last piece of the map that, as far as DLA Piper is concerned, is dark at the moment,” Berkson tells the Lawyer.
