Earlier this year, a Michigan personal injury law firm gave away backpacks filled with school supplies to all kindergarten through fifth-grade students at a Detroit elementary school.

The children were excited, and the event inspired the Mike Morse law firm to think bigger—much bigger.

When school starts in Detroit this year, the firm, with the help of the Kids in Need Foundation, will be providing backpacks filled with supplies to all kindergarten through fifth-graders in the system. There are about 23,000 of them, CBS Detroit reports.

“We met with the principal of the school who told us how important it was for the kids to see businesses and other people other than the families, giving to the community, giving to the school, showing them that other people care,” name partner Mike Morse told the station.

“That really resonated with me, so I thought let’s do this in a bigger way.”

The Detroit giveaway will be the largest single event of its kind ever handled by Kids in Need during the nonprofit’s 20-year history.

But it could turn out to be bigger—much bigger. “I’m hoping that other businesses will step up and do this for other school districts,” Morse said..
