Law Firms Compete in Legal Food Frenzy to Donate the Most to Food Pantries
Working several years ago at a law firm with a presence in Virginia, attorney Mary Binns-Davis saw firsthand how intensely the lawyers there felt about a two-week statewide competition among legal partnerships to gather the most donations for food pantries. Initiated in 2006, the charitable drive donates a million pounds of food annually.
A West Virginia practitioner, Binns-Davis wondered why her attorneys in her own state weren’t doing something similar to the Legal Food Frenzy, reports the State Journal.
Now they are.
This week, Binns-Davis and her colleagues at McNeer Highland McMunn & Varner began vying with other Berkeley County lawyers and law firms to gather the most donations for the Loaves & Fishes food pantry there by July 29.
Among the participants is Bowles Rice, McDavid, Graff & Love, which for years has held monthly food drives for the facility, the newspaper notes.
The event comes at a time when donations are much-needed, says administrator Trina Cole. “With school out for the summer, a lot of families are struggling because now they have kids eating three meals a day at home instead of getting breakfast and lunch at school five days a week.”
