Law Firms Buy Trendy Coffee Makers in Hopes of Averting Starbucks Runs

Lawyers involved in the recent $250 million merger of chip developers NetLogic and RMI couldn’t stop gushing about two ingredients that helped late-night sessions go smoothly: Bingham's high-end gourmet coffee and big bowls of M&Ms.

Lawyers were singing the praises of the firm’s Keurig B3000 coffeemaker that dispenses single cups of coffee within 45 seconds, Legal Pad reports. Dave Manly, Keurig’s vice president of marketing, told the blog that law firms are the company's best customers. Ropes & Gray, for example, has more than 40 machines.

“It keeps people from going out to Starbucks and other coffee shops,” he said. “It keeps them productive in the office.”

The coffeemaker allows lawyers to choose among coffee flavors and types. Some are more popular than others. “I would say, in the law firm profession, we sell very little decaf,” Keurig told Legal Pad.

To avert those, M&Ms;and trendy coffee makers are not alone sufficient.  Dietary fibre is required.

Starbucks is just a cover for those times when you just want to get out of the office and away from the other brown-nosing associates.

Don’t worry, McLeod, we have covered the dietary fiber requirement by providing a snack machine with Cheezits and gum of an undetermined age and expiration!

I go on coffee runs at least twice a week.  It gets me out of the office rut and I come back more productive.  Our firm has an open door policy.  We can come and go whenever we want as long as the work gets done.

Sometimes a stretch of the legs is better for productivity in the long run. I like a nice breather every few hours.

I prefer the variety of coffee available with my Tassimo machine (to say nothing of its ability to make crema, lattes, tea, etc), although the Keurig is a fine machine.  As McLeod well knows, there are many such machines at the Boston Bar Association.
