Sixty-four law firms have obtained top scores for their treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees and clients, according to an index compiled by the Human Rights Campaign.

Only 13 law firms got perfect scores on the Corporate Equality Index in 2006, the first year law firms were invited to participate. Now that the figure has grown to 64, law firms are outpacing banking and financial services firms, according to a press release.

“Law firms are highly competitive in their recruitment efforts for law school graduates, and are also held to increasing standards of diversity by their corporate clients,” the report (PDF) says. “LGBT equality is an integral part of these efforts to recruit and retain top talent and cultivate clients.”

Law firms were among 583 businesses rated by the Human Rights Campaign, 259 of which got perfect scores, an increase of one-third over the prior year.

The report lists the law firms in Appendix C of the report beginning at page 59.
