Already sentenced to 24 years in a federal bank robbery case, a Washington University law graduate got another 45 years Thursday in a related Missouri case over the shooting of a state trooper during a getaway attempt, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon.

The two sentences will run consecutively, effectively resulting in a life prison term for Warren J. Gladders, 65, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Gladders, whose criminal record prior to a string of bank robberies ending in 2013 included only traffic tickets, has not explained why he committed the crimes, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch previously reported. He was a co-owner of a laundry equipment business and may have been in financial difficulties, court documents and a business partner have suggested.
