A student at Cooley Law School disarmed a robber wielding a hunting rifle who had burst into a coffeehouse in Grand Rapids, Mich., in the early morning hours last Thursday.

The robber at the Bitter End Coffee House demanded laptops and other valuables, but 3L Shady Yassin was reluctant to part with his computer, the Grand Rapids Press reports.

“I saw an opportunity to take the gun away,” Yassin told the newspaper. “He had the gun pointed down toward the floor, and I just kind of reacted.”

Yassin slammed the man against the wall and wrestled the rifle away from him. When the robber took off running, Yassin and another coffeehouse customer gave chase, but were unable to catch him. Police eventually made an arrest based on evidence left behind.

Yassin hopes to become a criminal defense lawyer. “It’s funny because, someday, I’m going to be defending guys like this,” he told the Grand Rapids Press.
