A law student was unarmed when he was shot and killed by a police officer in Hudson, Ohio, during a struggle with the officer following a traffic accident on Dec. 4, officials say.

The slain man, 26-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, was a law student at Case Western Reserve. The Summit County Medical Examiner says Alameri was shot five times and has ruled his death a homicide, report the Hudson Hub-Times and Cleveland.com.

An Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation spokeswoman, Jill Del Greco, says evidence will be presented to a grand jury after an investigation by the BCI is complete. The officer who shot Alameri is on paid administrative leave.

Callers to 911 had said a car flipped onto its roof after sideswiping another car, then the driver—who was Alameri—ran from the scene. A dashcam video shows the officer chasing Alameri into the woods. Above the Law describes the officer’s commands, picked up on the audio portion of the video.

“Stop, or I’ll shoot!” the officer shouts. “Get down! I will shoot you! Get down on the f—ing ground! Get down! Stop!” Then six gun shots can be heard.

Alameri, a citizen of the United Arab Emirates, was in the United States on a student visa, the National Law Journal (sub. req.) reports. A law school spokesman confirmed to the NLJ that Alameri was a student, but didn’t say whether he was in the JD or LL.M. program.

An embassy consular team and officials with the Abu Dhabi Police Department have met with investigators, according to separate stories by Cleveland.com and the Hudson Hub-Times.
