Law student who came to aid of BigLaw partner lands summer associate job

A George Washington University law student who intervened to help a Baker McKenzie partner being attacked by a group of youths has landed a summer associate job with the law firm.
Partner John Rowley III tells the Am Law Daily (sub. req.) that he realized law student Andrew Miller would be a good addition to the summer associate program after getting to know him following the attack.
“I practiced law for quite a while now and, frankly, natural leaders are hard to find,” Rowley told the Am Law Daily. “When I met [Miller] and I got to know him a little bit, reflecting back on the courage of jumping in, he was the kind of person that we wanted to have here at the firm this summer.”
Rowley can’t remember details of the May 12 attack at a Metro station in Washington, D.C. Rowley was on his way to meet a friend when someone knocked him down. Witnesses said a group of juveniles kicked Rowley in the face and pushed him toward the train.
Miller intervened, and the attackers came at him. He says he partially blocked one punch and took another. The youths fled the scene. Two people have been arrested in the incident and they are scheduled to be tried in July.
Miller started work at the firm on June 12.
