Wasting no time getting to work after his weekend appointment to represent beleaguered World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, powerhouse Washington attorney Robert Bennett called today for measured consideration of the situation.

The bank’s board is already reportedly deliberating about the fate of Wolfowitz, who is accused of having given a companion who is also a bank employee favorable treatment that included a pay raise. But Bennett, a white-collar ace who represented President Clinton in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case, says he needs several weeks to develop the facts and counter the recent “rush to judgment” in this case, reports the Wall Street Journal.

“I am convinced Mr. Wolfowitz acted in complete good faith, and ethically at all times,” Bennett said.
