A New Jersey inmate accused of offering $30,000 for the death of his defense lawyer is applying for a public defender.

Inmate Michael Anthony Nocera, 43, was being held without bail on child sexual assault charges in Ocean County when he was charged last Thursday with conspiracy to commit murder, report the Asbury Park Press and NJ.com.

Nocera was accused of offering the cash to have anyone kidnap his lawyer and shoot him in the head, and then to burn the body and dump it in a body of water

On Wednesday, a judge in Toms River allowed the lawyer to withdraw from the case. He was not identified but court records indicate he is Robert Schillberg Jr. of Middletown, according to the Press.

Schillberg said he could not comment when contacted by the publication.
