A California lawyer didn’t stop working after an attack on Wednesday by a razor-wielding client, according to police.

The attacker slashed the face of Richard Rutledge, but the lawyer returned to court and continued working after a short break, the Herald of Monterey County reports.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill King told the newspaper that the attacker was David Gomez, an inmate with mental health issues who was recently found fit to stand trial. The attack occurred during a court recess. Police found a small piece of razor afterward.

A lawyer named Richard Rutledge is listed as a senior partner at the Rutledge & Rutledge law firm in Aptos, Calif. The profile says he is a former police officer and a licensed contractor.
