Can’t identify with the contestants in American Idol? Then consider voting in a different contest: the ABA Battle of the Lawyer Bands.

A lawyer panel has selected five finalists playing a variety of music, including big band tunes, country rock, blues and soul. Now voting is open to the public.

The top three vote-getters will be invited to play at the President’s Reception at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago on Aug. 4. The first place prize is $5,000, second place wins $2,500 and third place gets $1,000.

You can see and vote for the competitors on the ABA website. Contest rules require the groups to have a majority of attorney members. The finalists are:

Gary Greene Esq. & His Big Band of Barristers

George Hartline and the Harmless Doves

Joe Bisceglia & Friends

Soultivity

Treble Damage

One video starts with an introduction by a Jenner & Block partner who leads his band, while another starts with a lawyer complaining about a court referee who has been ruling against her. After the referee denies a motion to dismiss, counsel is invited to approach the bench. She does so, backed up by members of her band singing the song “Use Me.”
