An Atlanta lawyer has dropped his defamation lawsuit taking issue with a blog post by the Electronic Frontier Foundation that featured his patent as the “stupid patent of the month.”

Lawyer Scott Horstemeyer dropped the May 26 suit on June 4, according to Corporate Counsel, Ars Technica and the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Deeplinks blog. There was no settlement or agreement between the parties, according to the Deeplinks blog post by EFF’s general counsel, Kurt Opsahl.

Horstemeyer’s patent was for a method of updating delivery information.

Horstemeyer could still refile the suit. “We stand ready to defend if he does,” Opsahl wrote, “but for now consider this matter to be over.”
