Lawyer faces charges in claimed $2.5M auto insurance fraud
A Connecticut lawyer has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of mail fraud and conspiring to commit mail fraud as part of a claimed $2.5 million auto insurance scheme.
Personal injury attorney Joseph Haddad is the seventh individual charged as a result of the so-called Operation Running Man probe by the FBI, the Connecticut Post reports.
The other six defendants in the Bridgeport case include chiropractors, a doctor and a former doctor. All have taken pleas and await sentencing, according to the newspaper.
An undercover FBI agent claimed to be a patient and recorded conversations for use as evidence in the case.
Haddad is accused of paying individuals to find clients for whom accident claims could be pursued. Other defendants in the claimed scheme allegedly supplied him with cash for such payments and/or were involved in treating patients, at least sometimes excessively, as well as paying kickbacks concerning medical treatment.
