A federal judge in Boston has sentenced a Massachusetts lawyer to eight months of home confinement for trading on insider information gleaned form a golfing buddy.

Lawyer Douglas Parigian, 56, was sentenced on Monday, Reuters reports. He pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy and securities fraud. His guilty plea had reserved the right to appeal based on a recent appellate decision that made it more difficult to pursue insider trading charges.

Prosecutors had sought a two-year prison sentence. They claimed Parigian made $267,000 on the illegal trading.
