Lawyer Hopes Magic Will Help Him Win Whistling Title

John Ruggieri is a man of many talents.

He is a lawyer and a professional poker player, the Associated Press reports. And he’s working hard to gain a spot in the finals of the International Whistling Convention.

Ruggieri is participating in the convention in Louisburg, N.C., this year after failing to make the finals last year. “There’s going to be some jokes,” Ruggieri told AP. “Maybe even a magic trick. And a trivia game. A whistling trivia game.”

Ruggieri honed his skills as a boy whistling the flute parts of Jethro Tull songs. He is one of more than five dozen contestants participating in this year’s contest.
