A Georgia criminal defense lawyer has been federally indicted in a drug-distribution case after police say she sold drugs to undercover agents.

Arraigned Monday in Macon after the unsealing of the Aug. 11 indictment, Holly Hogue Edwards, 35, is accused of distributing oxycodone and methamphetamine, the Telegraph reports.

Edwards was released on $15,000 unsecured bond, and Magistrate Charles Weigle appointed a federal public defender to represent her. However, Weigle said this was “a bit of a close call” and warned Edwards that she could be required to reimburse the office for its legal work on her behalf, if she has funds to do so.

Edwards, a former assistant public defender in Houston County, worked for her former in-laws at Hogue & Hogue until 2009, when she went out on her own.
