After receiving complaints for nearly two years, authorities have accused a Connecticut lawyer with stealing nearly $800,000 from 10 clients.

Charged with six counts of first-degree larceny and four counts of third-degree larceny, attorney John Rodia, 47, turned himself in yesterday and was released on $50,000 bond, reports the Connecticut Post.

A former state police trooper and Trumbull police officer, Rodia admitted criminal conduct and told Stratford police that he had become addicted to OxyContin following back surgery for injuries he suffered in a crash while working as a trooper, the newspaper reports.

He is accused of keeping client settlement and refinancing money for himself.

Police first began receiving complaints in early 2009.
