A Canadian real estate attorney is missing, along with all but about $89,000, in U.S. dollars, of over $3 million in mortgage funds from institutional lenders that had been held in a trust account at the sole practitioner’s law firm, according to the The Law Society of Upper Canada.

Credit card records suggest Rita Grewal may be in India, and she has vacated her home and her Mississauga, Ontario, law practice, reports the Law Times.

She was admitted in 2011 and the money that is reportedly missing went into her trust account between February and July of this year. The amount of missing funds is based on the current exchange rate for Canadian dollars.

The law society has suspended Grewal from practice, on the theory that she is “a significant risk to the public.”
