Corrected: Acquitted of murder in July in the controversial Florida slaying of an unarmed black teenager who was killed with a 9 mm. Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol, George Zimmerman has reportedly lost little time in researching a potential new firearm purchase.

On Thursday he visited the Florida headquarters of the manufacturer, Kel-Tec CNC Industries in Cocoa, to look at a 12-gauge tactical shotgun which holds 12 rounds, TMZ reported.

His lawyer, Mark O’Mara, apparently was not thrilled by the news.

“We understand how George visiting the factory that produces the gun used to shoot Trayvon Martin is seen as inappropriate,” he told Reuters, through a spokesman.

The Huffington Post and the Orlando Sentinel also have stories.

Although acquitted in a murder case over the slaying of Trayvon Martin, it is still possible that Zimmerman could face federal charges after an an ongoing civil rights investigation is completed.

Updated on Aug. 28 to accurately reflect new info on what type of gun Zimmerman was shown.
