Updated: A lawyer in Kendall, Florida, had surgery for a gunshot wound after he was shot at his law office on Wednesday morning.

The lawyer, Larry Harshman, has a real-estate practice, the Miami Herald reports. The newspaper reports that Harshman was shot in the abdomen, while Local 10 reports he was shot multiple times. NBC Miami also has a story.

Harshman was in critical condition after the surgery. His wife, Lenora, told NBC Miami on Thursday that her husband is expected to survive.

The suspect, identified as Fadel Jabado, is also suspected in the shooting deaths of his own wife and son. Police found the bodies in Jabado’s home while searching for Jabado.

Police surrounded Jabado and his vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, News 10 reported. Police said they later shot Jabado when fired a gun at them and begged the officers to kill him, the Miami Herald reports in a new story. Other coverage says Jabado was shot after pointing a gun at police. Jabado was airlifted to a hospital.

Jabado had hired Harshman for the short sale of the home he owned with his wife in 2013, according to the Miami Herald. An ice cream truck driver, Jabado had financial problems and was frustrated because his wife wanted to move back to New Jersey. Jabado was listed in critical condition.

Lenora Harshman told 7 News Miami and NBC Miami that Jabado had visited her husband’s office and said he needed representation in a divorce because his wife was leaving him. Larry Harshman said he didn’t handle family law cases.

Jabado “left very upset, and the next time he came back and shot him,” Lenora Harshman told NBC Miami.

Updated on Nov. 3 to indicate Jabado was shot and taken into custody. Updated on Nov. 4 to include information from Lenora Harshman.
