A Texas lawyer who testified this week for the prosecution in the murder trial of a former client resigned from his government job almost immediately afterward.

Attorney Marshall Shelsy admitted during his Wednesday testimony in the case against William Porter that he had initially lied to investigators and a grand jury about finding a bullet in 1986 in the home of his then-client, reports the Houston Chronicle (sub. req.).

Harris has been working as a staff attorney for Harris County, but no more.

Within hours of his testimony, a one-sentence news release was issued, the newspaper reports. It read: “Staff Attorney to the County Criminal Courts at Law, Marshall Shelsy, submitted his resignation today, effective immediately.”
