A lawyer in Augusta, Georgia, showed up 15 minutes late on Monday for a hearing to determine whether he should be held in contempt of court, then scolded the judge.

“Surely you didn’t start without me,” the lawyer, Christopher Nicholson , told the judge, according to an account by the Augusta Chronicle.

The hearing was scheduled to determine whether Nicholson should be held in contempt for a Dec. 11 courtroom outburst, according to a petition for contempt. The document says Nicholson yelled at a prosecutor and judge on that date, then left the courtroom without permission, according to the Augusta Chronicle account.

The judge presiding in the contempt hearing on Monday, Daniel Craig, announced it was being recessed to allow for an evaluation of Nicholson at an in-patient facility, the story says.

Nicholson’s license to practice law was suspended on Dec. 22 for failing to respond to a bar investigation, according to this order (PDF). The suspension could be lifted if Nicholson files an acceptable response, the Augusta Chronicle says.
