A Mississippi lawyer has sued a physician over a claimed murder-for-hire plot that already has the 70-year-old doctor facing criminal charges concerning an April shootout with law enforcement agents in the attorney’s office across from the Leflore County courthouse.

Attorney Lee Abraham says in the civil conspiracy suit that he has had to alter his daily activities as a result of the incident and seeks damages from Dr. Ralph Arnold Smith Jr. for loss of enjoyment of life, reports the Greenwood Commonwealth (sub. req.).

The action was filed last week in Leflore County Circuit Court.

Smith is facing two counts of criminal conspiracy for allegedly hiring a hit man to murder Abraham and a capital murder charge concerning the death of the claimed would-be hit man, Keaira Byrd, who was killed in the April shootout with authorities, the Associated Press reports.
