Robert Leighton’s alleged bad behavior after a Las Vegas bachelor’s party created a rift between Chicago attorney Lauren Serafin and her ex-fiance, who is also a lawyer. The result, she says, was the couple’s break-up prior to their planned Bora Bora destination wedding.

But Serafin still is out nearly $63,000 she paid for the event, she contends in an Illinois lawsuit, and she wants her money back, plus damages. Her breach-of-promise suit, which was filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court, seeks damages for what she describes as “extreme, intentional and outrageous” conduct on his part, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Reached by the newspaper on Friday, Leighton declined to comment.

A copy of the lawsuit (PDF) is provided by On Point News, the Las Vegas Sun notes in an article that provides further details about the dispute.

Although most states don’t allow such litigation over a broken promise to marry, Illinois does. Serafin is not the first jilted lawyer to have taken advantage of the opportunity to try to recoup her claimed costs as well as emotional distress damages, as earlier ABAJournal.com posts detail:
