A Michigan lawyer has filed a suit seeking copies of courtroom videos to show the demeanor of a judge who is up for re-election.

Lawyer Tom Kizer of Howell filed suit on Sept. 4 after the Livingston County court denied his request for videos of more than a dozen proceedings, the Livingston Daily reports. Kizer maintains that public tax dollars pay for the videos, and copies should be made available upon request.

Kizer says he wants videos of Judge Theresa Brennan of Livingston County because she is up for re-election and “one of the issues is her demeanor, treatment of individuals [and] of litigants.”

Brennan told the Livingston Daily she couldn’t comment on the lawsuit. Her lawyer, Joe Seward, said Kizer’s suit was forcing the county to spend its limited resources. “Why sue Judge Brennan over something she’s obligated by law to follow?” Seward told the publication. “It’s disappointing, and the timing is suspect.”
