Corrected: A Wisconsin lawyer representing a client in a misdemeanor plea suffered a heart attack in a Milwaukee County courtroom on Monday.

The lawyer, 60-year-old Bradley Bloch of Waukesha, stopped speaking and began to collapse, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Proof & Hearsay blog reports. A Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy broke Bloch’s fall and administered CPR. Another deputy came to the rescue with a defibrillator.

Gerry Kuchler, a lawyer who shares office space with Bloch, told the blog on Tuesday that Bloch was in intensive care. “He wouldn’t have made it” without the quick action by deputies, Kuchler said.

Besides working in criminal defense, Bloch is a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin.
