A Spokane lawyer who spotted a man inside his truck at about 6 a.m. last Friday morning took matters into his own hands.
“He’d fight for a little bit and then he’d get tired and then he’d stop and he’d try to talk me into letting him up,” Stevens told the Spokesman-Review. “It was kind of an awkward 20 minutes where I’m just laying on the guy waiting for the cops to show up.”
The man said he needed money for Christmas, Stevens told KHQ.com. Stevens didn’t let the man go, though, after deciding he had probably ruined the Christmas of his crime victims. “He’s kind of the Grinch,” Stevens said. The broadcast station has raw video of its interview with Stevens.
The suspect, Nathan John Calvert, is accused of residential burglary, car theft and violation of probation, the Spokesman-Review says. Police say Calvert confessed to a two- to three-week string of residential burglaries and car prowlings that totaled 30 to 40 a night. He posted a video on Facebook that apparently displays his loot, according to police and KXLY.com.
