A former lawyer who quit his job and self-published a book at a Kinko’s copy shop is now a self-help guru based in Toronoto who has published his advice in 51 languages.

Author and speaker Robin Sharma says he once was afraid of public speaking, PostMedia News reports in a story published by the Windsor Star. He started out speaking with small groups, gradually increasing the numbers of attendees. His advice on conquering fear: “Once every seven days, do something that frightens you. Every time we do something that we resist and is frightening, we actually grow in our power.”

Sharma says his previous career as a litigator was a logical choice. But he responded to a pull inside of him to try self-publishing. He tells PostMedia News he learned a lesson by following his intuition. “We buy into a definition of success sold to us by society rather than asking: Who am I and how do I want to live?” he says.
