Defiant at the news Wednesday that his law license had been suspended for five years, a longtime Pennsylvania attorney and former state auditor general and lawmaker vowed to appeal in federal court what he called a violation of his civil rights and described the state’s supreme court as “corrupt.”

Don Bailey, 68, had been sanctioned in part because of what a disciplinary board determined to be baseless claims of malfeasance on the part of the federal judiciary, the Patriot-News reports.

However, he said an unfair process had denied him an opportunity to call witnesses to support his claim that his free speech rights were being trampled upon.

“The system is corrupt. The Supreme Court in Pennsylvania is corrupt and everybody knows it,” he told the newspaper. “Lawyers do not have the courage to speak up.”
