Lawyer Who Gave Up Practice to Teach Computer Skills Is Fatally Stabbed
Chicago police are investigating the stabbing deaths of a former lawyer and his roommate, who were found dead in their north side apartment on Tuesday.
Firefighters responded to a report of a small fire in the apartment, resulting in the discovery of the bodies, the Chicago Tribune reports. The victims are 64-year-old Gary Brown, a former lawyer, and his roommate, 48-year-old Chun Xiao Lee. They were lying beside each other on a bed, wrapped in blankets. Flammable materials were found nearby.
Brown had worked in private practice, as a prosecutor and as a city attorney in Kankakee, Ill. During college, he had pitched for the Montreal Expos in the minor leagues. He had left law practice about six years ago, however, to teach computer skills at an employment center, the center’s manager, Charles Hardwick, told the Tribune.
“The guy had an amazing life,” Hardwick said. “He worked here more hours than I could afford to pay him for.”
