A lawyer who quit her job after the managing partner berated her has failed to win unemployment benefits.

The New Jersey Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal by the securities class-action lawyer, Ann Dooley, on April 2, Law.com reports. An appeals court had found last August that Dooley left the job without good cause and wasn’t entitled to the benefits.

“On-the-job reprimands administered to claimant by her supervisor, while public and arguably improper and humiliating, are not so burdensome as to justify a claimant’s departure from the job,” the appeals court said last August.

Dooley quit her job at Lite DePalma Greenberg in July 2010 after the managing partner berated her for asking a partner on maternity leave to help her meet an impending deadline in a nationwide class action. Dooley had contacted the partner, who was nearing the end of her maternity leave, with the approval of her supervisor.

Dooley told her supervisor she was quitting that night and confirmed her decision the next day.

Law.com was unable to locate Dooley for comment. She is listed as retired in New Jersey’s attorney index.
